Tiger Landscapes Investment Facility Programme Design Report Bhutan

Bhutan is home to one of Asia’s most intact and connected forest landscapes. More than 70 per cent of the country is forested, while protected areas and biological corridors cover more than half of its territory. The Constitution requires Bhutan to maintain at least 60 per cent forest cover in perpetuity. This ecological network supports globally important species, including tigers, elephants, snow leopards and takins, as well as diverse prey populations.

This report presents the proposed design for implementing the Tiger Landscapes Investment Facility in Bhutan. It translates the findings of the joint scoping exercise into an operational framework for financing nature-positive micro, small and medium-sized enterprises and other eligible rural economic actors.

Tiger Landscapes Investment Facility Brief

Tiger landscapes are large blocks of ecologically connected areas of suitable tiger habitat. They are highly diverse, ranging from dense rainforests to open grasslands and from snow-covered regions to coastal swamps. These landscapes cover over 100 million ha of the current tiger range and over 70 million ha of tiger restoration landscapes, which could positively impact not just tigers and their prey, but also a vast array of biodiversity.
